Yashiro-cho Hachimangu Shrine Annual Grand Festival
[Toyota-City]
Date : Annually on the 2nd Sunday of October
  • Yashiro-cho Hachimangu Shrine Annual Grand Festival
With regard to the float dedicated at the Yashiro-cho Hachimangu Shrine Annual Grand Festival, preserved documents show that it was purchased from Iname Village in Yahagi Town, Hekikai County for 600 yen in 1909.
The float has two tiers with side wheels, a front shelf with a cusped gable and a boxed carving in the front part of the bottom tier, and canopy with balustrades on the top tier. The upper part is 1.78 m x 3.56 m, with a cusped gabled roof. A bent handle is attached to the rear part, and there are pictures that have been drawn on the upper rear part. The front pillars also have an arabesque carving of peony flowers and leaves.
They were carved by Segawa Jisuke Shigemitsu, a wood carver from Nagoya, in 1848.
The sight of the float being pulled out of the shrine grounds and immediately going up the steep hill while turning left is absolutely overwhelming.
