The Annual Grand Festival, which is a Shinto ritual of the Yamagami-sha Shrine, used to be held on May 6th, but is now held on May 5th. The so-called float festival is held on another day. It used to be held for three days on April 13th, 14th, and 15th. The float parade started on the 13th, the 14th was the Shigaku Festival (Shingaku, Yomiya (rehearsal)), and the 15th was the Main Festival. The difference from the festival today was that at the Shingaku Festival held on the 14th, the float was taken up the hill. Two floats were pulled up to the shrine on the top of the hill. Coinciding with the reform of the school system after the war, this festival which was originally held on April 13th and 14th every year was changed. Today, the festival dates are unified in the Narawa District and the district chief's meeting decides on a Saturday for the Shigaku Festival and Sunday for the Main Festival around the 2nd Sunday of the month.

On the day of the Shigaku Festival, Nishi-gumi's float sets off from in front of the Kumin Hall, while Sunago-gumi's float sets off from the Sunago Hall. They return by around 6:00 p.m. At night, the floats parade with lit lanterns as far as the large railway crossing at Narawa, before turning back while playing music and dancing. The event can be traced back to the Yoi Festival of the old times.

On the day of the Main Festival, floats are pulled around the town in the morning. They stop to perform Shinto music and dance to show gratitude to families who have made donations. The floats return to their storage at around 11:30 to take a lunch break. The floats are pulled out again at noon, and the two floats head toward the Hakusan-jinja Shrine together. After the float has been pulled up the hill, and dedication events have been held, rice cakes are thrown from the floats. They start to take the floats down at around 3:30 p.m. Having safely descended the hill, the floats return to their storage at around 6:00 p.m. taking a route they did not take in the morning.
