  • Utsumi Spring Festival (Okabe District Festival)
In April, when spring is in full bloom. In the town of Utsumi, splendid festivals distinctive to each district are held all at once.
The Okabe District Festival is a Shinmei-sha Shrine Festival. In the end of the Edo period, Nakano Jinemon Shigetomi, a Tatekawa-ryu wood carver, was involved in the production of the float that is pulled around today. This well-balanced Chita style float is made of uncolored natural wood. The highlight of the Karakuri puppet show performed by a small Karako doll and a large Karako doll that turns the table, is the performance of doing a handstand while beating the drum.
